HTC EVO 4G LTE vs. Samsung Galaxy S3

Are you in the market for a new Android mobile phone? I have some excellent news for you. Several highly advanced and sophisticated Android phones have recently hit the US market. Out of these, the HTC EVO 4G LTE and Samsung Galaxy S3 stand out as the two best Android smartphones. I purchased the EVO just one week ago and can confidently say that this smartphone is a sleek, powerful machine that can do it all. The EVO features an incredibly vivid, sharp and crisp screen that continues to amaze me. I enjoy working out at the gym and have been able to use my EVO as a music player. The phone features FM radio capabilities and has a variety of music apps that can be used. I also love watching Netflix movies on the EVO’s gorgeous screen.

I’m completely in love with my EVO 4G LTE phone. The only complaint I have is that Sprint’s 4G LTE network has not yet launched where I live here in the Washington DC metropolitan area. I’m currently stuck on sluggish 3G speeds. However, this is not the EVO’s fault and Sprint has stated that the 4G LTE network will launch soon throughout the country.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is literally just in the process of being released and those who pre-ordered will have their beautiful toy in their hands very soon. I had the opportunity to play with the Galaxy S2 at the Sprint store and was very much impressed with this smartphone. By all accounts and measures, the S3 will be a significant upgrade over the S2, which was already one of the best phones of 2011.

If you’re an Android junkie, this is both a blessing and a curse for you. Should you go with the new EVO or the Galaxy S3? Chances are that you will have the phone you select for at least the next two years. I can tell you now that you won’t be disappointed with either of these Android smartphones. However, it’s still worth comparing the two in key areas since differences do exist. Let’s take a look.

HTC EVO 4G LTE Versus Samsung Galaxy SIII

Both the EVO and S3 feature amazingly sharp and beautiful screens but there are some notable differences. The EVO comes with a 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 display with a resolution of 720 pixels.

On paper, the S3 has a superior display with its 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution. You may really have to observe both phones side-by-side at your local store to compare displays. However, it’s clear that both phones boast remarkable screens and resolutions.

Firmware and UI

Both the EVO and S3 come equipped with the powerful Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System. However, the S3 boasts TouchWiz 4.0 skin, which creates a more powerful User Interface in comparison to the EVO, which comes equipped with Sense 4.0.

Build Quality

While the S3 may be a technically superior phone to the EVO, there is a general consensus that the EVO features a better build quality and design. Unfortunately, the S2 and S3 both have a bit of a plasticky feel to it, which seems to be typical among Samsung smarthphones.

On the other hand, I can guarantee that you will be impressed with the EVO’s design and build quality. This phones looks so sharp and will feel like a high end phone when it’s in your hands. HTC smartphones have a strong reputation when it comes to their designs. The Taiwan based company really stepped up its game with the new EVO. The phone even features a nifty kickstand that comes in especially handy when I want to watch movies.

Camera Capabilities

If you are interested in using your smartphone as a quality camera and camcorder, you will not be disappointed with either the EVO or the S3. The EVO features an 8-megapixel LED flash camera with 1080p HD recording capabilities. I have been very impressed by the quality of the photos produced by my EVO. This phone boasts HTC’s ImageSense technology, which makes it very much comparable to a true digital camera. The EVO also features a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera and a continuous shooting mode that users will appreciate.

The S3 also boasts a top-of-the-line 8-megapixel rear camera and a slightly better 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. While the cameras are comparable between the EVO and S3, the S3 is known to have a higher quality camcorder. If this is very important to you, you may prefer the S3 to the EVO. However, if you are interested in just the camera, the EVO delivers an excellent continuous shooting option that may satisfy your needs.

If you are faced with the tough decision of having to select between the HTC EVO 4G LTE and Samsung Galaxy S3, you will have to consider what’s most important for you. The S3 is a slightly more powerful phone but the EVO really wins out in terms of build quality, in my opinion. Also, third-party retailers have lowered the price of the EVO, which may factor into your decision. The main point is that you cannot go wrong with either of these high-quality Android smartphones.

Great review, I have not been able to use the htc evo 4g yet. I have tried the S3 a few times, and am very satisfied with it’s power.
