Microsoft has introduced its own line of tablets, Surface, as a strategic move to keep the software giant to stay in fight with iPad and the emerging Android tablets. It is a good timing for Microsoft to release it along side with Windows 8, another awaited Operating System from Microsoft. Though many tablet computers are powered by Windows 8, designed for touch screen devices, Microsoft entered the market with its own tablet computer. Will it be a worth competitor to iPad or not? Find it out here.

Microsoft enters into the tablet personal computer market with its own brand of product, Microsoft Surface. Though the release of Surface Tablet connects with release of Windows 8, both seem to be a nervous moment for Microsoft. Microsoft Surface Tablets comes in two versions – Microsoft Surface RT and Microsoft Surface Pro. Both these tablets run on Windows 8.

Features

The device looks new and different. It comes with a kickstand which is in the back of the monitor. It provides comfort to you while you are chatting or attending video calls or watching a movie.

The pressure sensitive cover, which also function as keyboard or a trackpad for the ease of typing for the users. Connecting this ‘Cover’ and the tablet is simple. Just place over it and the tablet connects with a single magnetic click.  The side view of the tablet mounted on Cover is a viral sensation in Facebook.

It has two cameras. One at the front facing you and another one at the rear, which looks straight forward when the kickstand is extended. It also has dual microphones for the superior voice recording during video calls and enhances the stereo support.

There is no word from Microsoft about some features whether Surface Tablet has or not. The price range is still a mystery. Top of that there is a question that it has 3G/4G support. If it hasn’t got the support, definitely it will be a drawback for this product.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Surface Tablet is released with an aim to compete directly with iPad. There are some pros and cons with Surface Tablet.

Running on Windows 8, the tablet will give a new user experience to the user as we know Windows 8 is designed especially for the touch screen devices. Windows 8′s Store will be a straight competitor for Apple’s App store. The screen size is bigger than iPad. The Pro version has more built in space than iPad. USB support is a notable feature with Surface Tablet.

Unlike iPad, Windows 8 tablets have the capability to run more than one application at a time. So multi-tasking is ensured with Surface Tablet.

The Pro version includes a stylus for users to take hand written notes. Also, Surface Tablets runs a special version of MS Office. So, this product will target academicians.

Cons

Microsoft is still not clear in fixing the price. If it fixes price higher than iPad and lacks some features which iPad have, definitely Microsoft will regret for what they have did. Microsoft Store, rival of Apple’s App store, may not be that popular in the beginning as it is a new market. It can compete with App Store in no way unless it put some really great apps.
